A couple of weeks back, Jacksonville, FL band Appalachian Death Trap made headlines when the tourism board of a nearby resort town, St. Augustine, lifted a portion of the band’s online biography for a preview article on the band’s upcoming gig there. While such a tactic is standard practice for upcoming shows the world over, the fact that Appalachian Death Trap had used a stock description for The Golden Girls in their Facebook bio made it especially entertaining.
VisitStAugustine.com eventually got wind of the gaffe and updated their event page (but not before we grabbed a screen shot!). But Appalachian Death Trap have decided to seize on the moment by recording a cover of “Thank You For Being a Friend,” the Golden Girls theme song originally penned by Andrew Gold. It’s a stoner rock version of an old classic we all know well, so crank it below and think of all the good times you’ve had with Dorothy, Rose, Blanche and Sophia.
Appalachian Death Trap are playing at Shanghai Nobby’s in St. Augustine this Saturday, February 16th, and with He Is Legend at Nighthawks in Jacksonville on March 11th. If you show up, be sure to thank them for being a friend.
